Description of Project or Company/Organization:

Through our Health Service Support Contract with the Department of National Defence, Calian’s healthcare professionals work in partnership with military healthcare teams providing primary care to today’s Canadian Forces. Our healthcare teams consist of more than 500 professionals providing healthcare services coast-to-coast at over 30 locations in Canada.

Job Description:

The Medical Social Worker works within a comprehensive and integrated mental health care system. The Medical Social Worker functions as a member of a multi disciplinary mental health care team to provide services that promote wellness and provide timely interventions that support and empower Canadian Forces members to achieve their highest level of functioning. Some of the health services and activities that can be expected from this professional group

• Provide liaison and advocacy for patients working in close concert with the Mental Health Case Manager
• Participate in collegial decision making with regards to treatment decisions and team activities
• Act as the social work clinical advisor and liaises with the Clinical Director
• Act as mentor/supervisor/resource to Medical Social Worker students
• Assist in the identification, development and evolution of mental health programming
• Provide individual therapy for trauma and mental health conditions as appropriate
• Provide group therapy for clients (inclusive of families) when such therapy is the preferred or adjunctive treatment option
• Participate in program orientation and provide information to external inquiries as required

Mandatory Qualifications:

• Must be a graduate of a recognized University with a Master's Degree in Social Work with a minimum 2 years of post graduate clinical experience providing assessments and treatment for individuals, couples and families
OR
• Must be a graduate of a recognized University with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work with a minimum of 5 years clinical experience providing assessments and treatment for individuals, couples and families
AND
• Must also have a minimum of 3 years counselling experience in an adult mental health care team
• Must hold a current membership certificate with the College of Social Workers of Alberta
